I found this soup in a discount store and was very sceptical. I didn't really know what barley was. I made it and I absolutely loved it. I added a little sugar and I could have eaten half the pot. I will definitely have it again.
Great taste, convenient to prepare and good price.
This soup is easy to make. I use a crockpot and let it simmer all day. The entire family enjoys it.
Made this soup last night. Absolutely delicious. Hearty and the flavor is incredible. Just added tomatoes and stew meat! Makes a large batch. YUM!
best soup ever made I added carrots and celery yes I would buy again. will make wonderful gifts
This is a delicious hearty soup that the whole family enjoys. It is especially welcoming after a day out in the snow!
A friend made this soup and shared some with us. We loved it. I had to know her recipe and was surprised when she showed me the box of Beefed Up Barley soup mix. She shared a box of it with me and we made it last night. We actually used ground venison instead of beef and then used reduced sodium beef stock in place of the water. It was fantastic.
My friend actually found this soup mix at a discount store so I am off in search of more today. But if I don't find it I am glad to know I can order online anytime. Anxious to try a few other flavors too!
I saw this mix at Marshall's and decided to give it try since it doesn't have preservatives and all the ingredients are "normal" (as opposed to a bunch of chemicals and artificial flavorings). I made it as directed except that I used short ribs instead of lean ground beef (I skimmed it when it cooled to get rid of the fat from the short ribs). The soup was outstanding!!!! Now I'm ordering a case online.
This soup was absolutely awesome. I didn't really need to add anything but me being me I added peas, corn and diced up some carrots, thru in a couple of bay leaves and mmmmm good. My sister was over and she couldn't get enought she called me the next day wanting my recipe. I am definitely hooked, I have read several of the reviews regarding your other soup products and I am super excited to try more.
When I made this soup, I used cubes of beef that I cut up fairly small. An option is to use hamburg, but that didn't sound palitable to me. Not being much of a beef eater, I only made this soup once. The soup was very good, but I prefer chicken to beef.
Not a bad product. If you like barley and some interesting spices you should like this a lot. It fills you up well also.
I found this line at TJ Max and bought it on a whim because I was running late and this looked like it would cook up quick - what a surprise - quick and delicious. I substituted 4 of the cups of water with 4 cups of beef broth, threw in a couple large handfuls of shredded carrots and used 2 1.45 oz cans of Keystone all natural fully cooked beef. My husband said this is a keeper and ate two large bowls. Keep up the good work.
My 1 year old grandson is a fan of Chicken/Thyme.
This is by far my favorite Buckeye Bean Soup. It makes so much that you can have it for a couple meals. I make it with stew meat. The flavour is perfect. Sometimes, I add a little more barley, but it is amazing just as it is too.
This was a gift for my daughter Amy, and her husband Mark. I send them this soup, cornbread, and white chili chicken about 4 or5 times a year. She adds fresh beef cubed into small pieces. She says it adds an extra umph. They love having these soups in their pantry, and consider them an absolute dinner treat when they have them. It’s one of their favorites.
The soup mixes are great . The shipping box was not sturdy . One soup mix box was totally destroyed (beans everywhere ) . The good new is the Company sent free of charge a replace soup mix .
This soup is addicting. I can't eat just one bowl. It's delicious!
1st purchased in discount store locally, loved it and went back to get more, all gone, panic. Still had a box @ home and found their web site. I can now get whenever I want. All those that tasted loved it so I gave as gifts last year and will do again this year. It was so simple too.
i used 12 oz of frozen turkey meatballs, 2 cups of turkey broth to replace 2 cups of water, and some broken up egg noodles. All else was as called for. Pretty spicy...next time I may use less of the spice packet. Perfect with corn muffins and enough to feed a crowd. I'll get this again.
This soup is fabulous. You don’t have to use beef if you don’t want to. I don’t eat beef. You can substitute chicken, ham bone or no meat at all. Whatever way you prepare it it’s amazing.
Received this as part of a gift of three kinds. It is my hubbie's fave and my second fave so far. We used stew meat with fat trimmed off and cooked longer (3 hrs) for greater meat tenderness. We also used half Beef Broth for the fluid. It was just wonderful and lasted 5 meals for us!
I made a vegetarian version by using crumbled firm tofu instead of meat. The spices are perfect. I wish I knew what they were.
ME use a soup mix??? Never! Ok, I tried Beefed-Up Barley.
Thank You! Its GREAT! And I held back on the seasoning pack thinking it would be way too salty and it wasn't. Thank you for not using MSG/sodium overload!
The good home made taste and beautiful packaging make these great gifts! I have already bought some for Holiday gift giving.
I received this in a gift basket. I normally make my own soup from scratch. Was I surprised at how tasty this soup is. My family really enjoys this soup. You can customize it by adding different vegetables, but it is delicious by itself.
This is very good soup. I used turkey sausage and added fresh chard from our garden and it was a hit with our family. I would highly recommend this soup mix. We receive it originally as part of a gift basket from friends who live in Oregon. Since then, I have purchased it from your company twice and will most likely get more in the future.
I was a huge fan of Buckeye Beans & Herbs back in the 80s when they had a full product line including fun shaped pasta and more soups. Chicken 'N Thyme was the first one I had tried and I loved. My favorites were always Chicken 'N Thyme, Great Leapin' Lentils, Beefed-Up Barley, and Barley Burgoo (which unfortunately Seattle Gourmet Foods isn't producing - PLEASE RECONSIDER IF POSSIBLE!).
I was so upset when the line was sold off in 1997 and then completely discontinued as the company that bought it went bankrupt in 1999.
I stumbled across my 3 favorites, plus the Pea Soup (favorite of my Mom's) in the Christmas Tree shop and was thrilled!
You can't go wrong with these soups and I always have to make double batches when I make them.
This one always got an eyebrow raise from friends and family and folks didn't think they would like it. They were always wrong and wanted more. I gave a box to a friend recently and they tried it with cubed beef (I always make it with ground beef) and they said it was fantastic.
It tastes a little like a chili but not quite. It is fantastic on a cold day when you need something a little hearty and spicey. Serve with the cornbread, rolls or a nice chunk of bread.
Bought this a long time ago and found it while cleaning out my pantry. Decided to make it with a piece of steak I found in the freezer. Cubed the steak into tiny pieces and cooked it with the onion. Added celery and some carrot. Wasn't expecting much from a mix but it was awesome. It didn't have that "mix" taste one usually gets from most mixes. Couldn't remember where I bought it so on to the internet I went.............glad to have found this website. Will definitely get more of the beefed up barley!
This is THE BEST packaged soup I have ever purchased!!!!! I also found it at Ross. I used hamburger and since the only canned tomatoes I had on hand was Fire Roasted diced, I added one can and then a can of black beans. A great soup on a cold weekend in Fort Worth with solid ice covering the streets and every reason is stay safe and cozy inside with delicious soup. Someone put together an excellent spice package - will definitely purchase this again
This soup is amazing! It is a full bodied soup with great flavor! It is a hit every time I make it! Yum!
I have tried several of these soups and loved all of them, this one is my husband's favorite. It does have a bit of a kick to it, but even my daughter who does not like spicy things, loved this soup. I really like that all of these soups are low in sodium and no artificial ingredients. This one has barley, herbs, chili power, salt, onion, garlic and spices. I used ground up turkey. And after 2 feet of snow today in NY, it was perfect to warm up up.
This made a tasty kettle of soup. In place of the beef, I substituted venison that had been cut for stew. We will definitely make this again!
